Positive: Location was brilliant. The room itself was clean and satisfactory, but not as nice or charming as the one pictured. After a lot of scepticism from myself, the host did to be fair refund the extremely high damage deposit very quickly.

Negative: The check-in process was a bit odd, such as the host keeping the door code secret until we messaged them to say we were outside. We had to wait a while for them to see our message, at which point they sent the code. Nothing deal breaking, just a bit odd. The building is evidently under renovation, and during our stay there were loud works taking place in the room above which the host didn't acknowledge, and which woke us up early each morning. Once inside, we instantly realised the room was completely different to the one pictured. Nowhere does it say or show you won't get the room pictured. The room we got was fine, but was a totally different layout and devoid of the charm the one pictured has. As discussed below, it is clearly one rule for the host, and another for the guest... Admittedly, I missed the part where the host says that they required a bank transfer of 450EUR for a damage deposit. However, within 24 hours of booking, and 2 weeks prior to our stay, I informed the host of my error, and advised I didn't have the means to pay 450EUR, or particularly to wait up to 14 days for it back as per their terms. I pleaded with them to either lower the deposit or at least allow us to cancel with no or minimal penalty. After much pleading, the host absolutely refused to make any exception; pay the deposit in full or they would cancel and we'd lose the full amount. The rules set by the host also made us feel uncomfortable, stating that if you make any noise, if anyone other than us came into the room, or if one thing got broken, they would keep the full 450EUR. Granted, we are quiet + respectful guests that wouldn't have done any of those things, but it just made us feel on edge, particularly since some furniture was already tatty upon arrival, there was no quiet way to close the door, and there were loud works taking place just above us.

Summary: Room not as advertised, but okay. Steep deposit. Host could be more understanding. Location great.
