Travel Purpose: business

Positive: First impressions were good. Although the receptionist didn't speak English (not her fault), we managed to communicate and she was able to guide me on where to get my local nucleic acid test too. Main benefits other than that were the price, the bed was decent enough, and the shower was good, but that's about it. The air con worked too, which was essential. As mentioned, it's fine for a base and for the price you can't expect much more, and the location is decent for both the airport and the Expo Center, but it's not without its issues.

Negative: Weirdly, despite me booking online for two nights, it was treated as though I had just turned up on the day and after the receptionist booked me in for one night, I had to correct this and change it. I ended up with a room with no window, which I didn't care about because it was just a base to sleep, but this became a bit of an issue when it came to Chongqing's (and the shower's) humidity. Even with the air con on, the room felt generally a bit sticky/damp, especially the bed sheets. It was hot those days, but I think this was partly because of the lack of a window. The room itself was a bit tight, the TV had a remote but the TV box needed to be operated manually to actually watch anything, and after I came back to my room on the first day two cards for prostitutes fell out the door frame. Take that as a positive or a negative as you will. Other downsides, if you don't smoke, are people sitting in the lobby smoking, and one guy even getting out of the lift smoking. There are rules against both of these in China but I've never seen anyone care to stop it or pay attention to it. A key point to note is around the location. Booking.com's app puts it on some random industrial estate, and if you use Baidu maps which is local, it puts the location in a field. Actually it is not even close, it's halfway down a heavily tree-lined street that runs parallel to the main highway you think it's on. If arriving by subway, DON'T take Line 3 and get off at ShuangFengQiao station. Instead, take Line 10 to YuBeiGuangChang station, get out at Exit 1A, turn around and go to the crossroads behind you, then cross to your right and head down the street in front of you. It's on the right after the park and a bridge. The street is called ShuangFengQiao and you can't miss it, it is completely covered by trees.

Summary: Good price, decent location, but not without flaws. Get a room with a window.
