Le Pailler de Salvestre - Hameau de Cauduro (4 bedrooms - 8 people) | House in Babeau-Bouldoux
4 Bedroom House in Babeau-Bouldoux
It is the largest house in the hamlet of Cauduro, with 4 bedrooms, a beautiful living room and a large terrace. Three bedrooms are on one level with the living room and the kitchen. And the room upstairs is a real "parental suite".
The house and its terrace directly overlook the countryside.
The hamlet of Cauduro is posed as an island in the middle of an ocean of garrigue and holm oaks, bordering the Regional Natural Park of Haut Languedoc. Built on the last buttress of the Black Mountain, 500 meters above sea level, it offers a beautiful view of the plain of Languedoc, with the Mediterranean as a skyline. The road stops at the entrance of the hamlet, after that it is calm without cars. Baggage or races are carried with small "carrioles". Although "at the end of the world", all shops and services are less than 13 kilometers away.
The seven cottages of the hamlet bear the name or nickname of the last peasants to occupy them. Antique furniture, terracotta tiles, lime plaster ... Each of the 7 cottages, not overlooked, has a terrace with garden furniture, barbecue and a well equipped kitchen. All rooms have a shower room with toilet. On arrival, beds are prepared and towels and table linen provided.
Cauduro is one of the four hamlets that constitute the commune of Babeau-Bouldoux.
At an altitude of 502 meters, above the beautiful Vernazobre spring, this small group of houses built on a limestone ridge dominates the plain of Languedoc, from Valras to Narbonne. The hamlet existed in the 16th century. At the beginning of the nineteenth, a hundred inhabitants shared 17 houses. In the war of 14/18, 11 young Caudurians were called. The 11 came back in 1918! They came back from the war, but not to Cauduro. Only one family - the Robert family - stayed in Cauduro. Emile the shepherd and Paul the plowman were the last representatives. The latter joined the plowman's paradise in October 2002.
It was in 1970 that we bought our first "house" in Cauduro: 4 walls filled with brambles and rubble ... which became the family holiday home ... without electricity and running water.
Over the years, ruin by ruin, we have gathered the 4/5 of the hamlet and consolidated little by little: a piece of roof here, a wall there ... The electricity arrived in 1976 and the running water in 1986 but the streets are not paved!
Today, of the 15 houses of the hamlet, 12 constitute "The Hamlet of Cauduro" and 7 are arranged in lodging.
The municipality accompanied our rehabilitation efforts by working on the communal buildings: the chapel and the bread oven.
