Positive: It was a great location, very close to city center and the canals. We felt cold in our room, and we called the front desk to ask where the thermostat was so that we could make our room a little warmer. The staff person said that the building is on central heating and could not change the temperature on individual rooms. However, staff members immediately brought us extra blankets and a small space heater. That made all the difference and our room was nice and warm for the night. The space heater was also nice to use in the bathroom, so we could stay warm after stepping out of the shower.

Negative: The room's furniture and decor looked older and more run down compared to the pictures on booking.com, and of the hotels I had researched before booking, The Lancaster was priced on the higher end. When we arrived early in the morning, it was a little disappointing that we could not check in, but I understand they were fully booked and there was not a single free room where we could check in, which I know is out of the staff's control. The main lobby bathroom was being remodeled, so we were directed to a tiny downstairs bathroom near the restaurant, so we freshened up in there. I then walked into the restaurant a few steps away from the tiny bathroom to obtain a glass of water, and I was met with suspicion, as if I was sneaking in. I was a guest at the hotel!! When we finally checked in to our room in the evening, the sofa bed was pulled out and made up. We didn't need the sofa bed so we collapsed it back into the couch. Under the sofa bed was a small plastic ziplock baggie with white powder. I did not want to know what that was, so I picked it up with a tissue and threw it in the trash.
