If you are arriving with a car there is a ferry from gorgeous Pelješac peninsula, from little village Prapratno which operates 5 times per day to Sobra port. There is also ferry from Split on Saturday and speed boat from Lastovo on Tuesday and Thursday.Getting aroundIt is hard to move around Mljet without a car or a scooter because of the island's hilly terrain. There is only one major road on Mljet which runs through or near most towns. The road is paved but only suitable for faster driving in only a very few places. The speed limit is often 40 kph. For most of its length, the road has long uphill or downhill parts. If you come without a car, you can rent one at several local agencies. Expect older used cars. The only petrol station is at the Sobra ferry terminal.There is also few middle age churches in the area which you can visit by talking a short 15 minute walk.Nearest restaurant is 6 minute drive from the property same as the nearest supermarket.
Mljet is the southernmost and easternmost of the larger Adriatic Islands of Dalmatia. It is the greenest Island with Mediterranean vegetation, a clear and clean sea, and a gentle sandy shoreline. National Park spreads on the western side of the Island (for over 54km2) and offers shady walking or cycling tracks, ancient ruins, and saltwater lakes. Entrances to NP Mljet is in Polače and Pomena.The main places are Pomena, Polače, and Sobra and in those places, you may find supermarkets, ATMs, restaurants, travel agencies, souvenir shops, etc...Island is regularly connected with Dubrovnik with a ferry from Dubrovnik or Korčula as well as a car ferry connection with Pelješac Peninsula on the Croatian mainland.The Korita riverbeds were built in the 15th century. after the migration from Žara and after the devastation of Okuklje.It was named after the natural stone depressions in which the water was filled. Due to its geographical position, the waters of the Mljet Channel and the open sea were monitored from Korita.In the middle of the village is a tower that served as a defense against frequent pirate attacks. During the 17th and 18th centuries, fishing flourished, so the inhabitants of Korita became rich by catching and selling salted fish, especially sardines. During this time, noble families from Dubrovnik, Ston and other regions immigrated, so Korita took on the characteristics of an urban centre. Sudden disappearance of sardines at the end of the 18th century resulted in emigration of the families.In Korita are the churches of St. Vid (also a village cemetery) from the 16th century, and Our Lady of the Hill from the 14th century. (Next to it there is an old village cemetery; it is believed that in the 14th and 15th centuries there was a larger settlement mentioned in written documents under the name Seoce) and the church of St. Elijah from the 16th century, patron saint of the place.
